From wedding cake designer to a hostess of online baking classes, how on earth did that happen so fast???
Baking classes have always been in my long term plan, I have been on countless in person classes over the past 15 years and could always visualise myself hosting my own; mainly because I adore being with people and add baking into the mix, it’s a match made in heaven for me.
In 2018, I advertised my baking classes on my website, expecting the classes to sell out and in reality just a few close friends attended the experience. In true style to me, I then overthought everything, wrote other classes but never thought they were perfect enough and when wedding bookings started to fill my diary I parked the idea of the classes.
Thankfully the curveball of 2020 made me change what I did to ensure my business survived and with the hands on support of the Agri-project and some amazing ongoing business guidance from the owner of the Marketing that Converts, Teresa Heath-Wareing, the online zoom baking classes began.
The first class was a 2-part session baking Christmas Cakes and a follow-on class to decorate them and the class sold out! The next was mince pies classes, and again they sold out and the rest as they say is history.
I have had the privilege of baking with the most amazing people over zoom and for those that know me, know I love to talk and be with people, so the fact I get to talk about all things baking is just awesome, and it really doesn’t matter what level of baker you are.
We’ve baked hot cross buns, cinnamon buns, profiteroles right through to my most popular class, delicious macarons. The classes are relaxed and fun and the best bit is they have been from the comfort of people’s homes.
The next plan for me is definitely to host in person baking classes as well as the zoom classes and all I need is to do is focus and get the classes written. For all of you who have baked with me, then thank you again from the bottom of my heart for helping me find my sparkle!
